  Backpacking though the outback and interested in getting the odd job as i go along, to keep me going. any idea of the kind of jobs an American fresh graduate could get?

    Shutdowns are a good option. they're a time when mining industries close for repair, upgrade jobs. they take place every now and tehn and mines hire entry level people quite often because there are a fair number of unskilled jobs available. it's super for backpackers. you can get a bit of money doing the job and then move on and keep on travelling.
